03/08/2021Listen To Our Latest Monthly Selection Of Extraordinary Tracks From Around The Globe

With summer in full swing and holiday vibes on all levels, we took a moment to compile our 20 favourite new musical discoveries of the past month in another comprehensive Spotify playlist for you to feast your souls on.

Our current "Greedio X July '21" selection features a solid lineup of extraordinary productions from around the globe, kicking off with a gorgeous spiritual jazz inspired track off the forthcoming collaborative album by Munich's Web Web and fellow German rapper/producer Max Herre, featuring American harpist Brandee Younger. Then it's a new take on a track from Raúl Monsalve y los Forajidos' 2020-released album "Bichos (feat. Luzmira Zerpa)", by Mexico-based drummer/producer Orestes Gomez, which paves the way to Daniel Haaksman's new remix of Dom Salvador e Abolição's Brazilian classic "Hei! Você", a new collaborative effort by UK producer Will "Quantic" Holland and Colombian folklore singer-songwriter Nidia Góngora and a vintage Indian Ocean find by poet, musician, singer and melody-maker Alain Peters, originally recorded in 1977 and released by his band Les Caméléons. Next, we are off to Peru behind the ingenious 1970s psychedelic cumbia guitar playing of Berardo Hernández, alias Manzanita y Su Conjunto, and some fresh Afro-Caribbean vibes by Venezuela's Caribombo, before we dive into an Italian golden age soundtrack by Augusto Martelli, an island disco classic by the late 'Mocko Jumbie' (carnival stilt dancer) Hugo Moolenaar, recently reissued on the always stellar Frederiksberg Records, and some French bossa nova to round off the first segment.

The next segment opens up on a recent Record Store Day reissue of Blackbeard's (aka Dennis Bovell's) 1980-released British dub album "I Wah Dub" and a funky psychedelic production by Estonia's Misha Panfilov Sound Combo. After a short layover in Japan with tribal psych trio Kuunatic, who are currently readying a new album to be released on Glitterbeat in October, we head to Israel with a newbie by the one and only Kutiman (watch the official companion video below) and a forthcoming new 7" single by Sababa 5 on Batov Records. Upping the tempo we move on to a sizzling new Frafra-driven 7" release by North-Ghanaian Kologo-ologist Guy One on Philophon, groundbreaking and rebellious new sounds by Johannesburg's  up-and-coming duo Stiff Pap and Soweto's BCUC as well as fellow South African artists Moonchild Sanelly's empowering new single "Yebo Teacher". Bringing the show to a worthy close, we added one more track by the enigmatic outfit Ak'chamel, the Giver of Illness and, finally, a wonderful track off the originally 1980-released and now reissued, self-entitled debut LP by the Ivory Coast's Eboni Band, aka Motown meets West Africa!
