Canciones De Isaac

18/01/2022Olindo Records Unveil Intimate Debut Full-Length Of Venezuelan Multi-Instrumentalist Isaac Sasson

The versatile Venezuelan singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Isaac Sasson returns to Olindo Records, to unveil his brand-new, debut full-length release, intimately titled "Canciones de Isaac" ('Songs of Isaac'). Released last Friday, the shapeshifting collection presents 14 heartfelt compositions, inspired by Sasson's native Venezuela and his new-found home in Barcelona, Spain. Channeling the voices of his ancestors and juxtaposing them with sounds from nature, Isaac's songs create a welcome escape to those suffering the negative effects of reclusion, social withdrawal or even urban sprawl. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

We first wrote about Isaac Sasson in the summer of 2019, when he released his "Cantos Campesinos" ('Peasant Songs') EP on Olindo Records, featuring two original, folkloric compositions and a pulsating remix by London's Hector Plimmer. But this first album of his is another 'beast' entirely, as he "creates a parallel universe, [summoning] the sounds of the wind, birds, crickets, fallen leaves and [adding] various percussion and wind instruments [as well as] the tradition bandola llanera, charango and cuatro" to intricate and mesmerising effect.

Accompanied by Isaac's gentle voice, "Canciones de Isaac" is a deeply atmospheric intercontinental and intergenerational journey into sound, at once nostalgic and contemporary and thoroughly organic. It is an arrival of sorts, where home can be a found in a multitude of shapes, thoughts and feelings, best expressed in musical momentum, "a narrative built around personal stories that touch upon human emotions, family ties and friendships to craft a collection of sonic postcards," or as they say in German, 'Momentaufnahmen'.

Below you can watch the evocative companion video to "Manyanet", dedicated to an eponymous town in the Catalan Pyrenees and containing a blend of local field recordings as well as the sounds of Caracas on a rainy afternoon. Find the full release here.
