Globalwize Radioshow #439

05/01/2024Listen To A WeltBeat 'African Presence' Special Featuring Selector Horst Senegal

Following the "Best of Globalwize 2023" radio show to bring the last year to a resounding close, WeltBeat selector and host Jean Trouillet resurfaces with a new edition of his far-reaching format on Frankfurt's community radio X, which just so happens to be another 'African Presence' special. The "Globalwize Radioshow #439" features two hours of music presented by Trouillet and studio guest DJ Horst Senegal and is now streaming exclusively via Greedio on Mixcloud. Alongside previous guest host DJ Miriam Schulte (who featured on show #431), Horst Senegal is one of the residents of the x-fade DJ Night on radio X and – having travelled to Botswana several times in his youth – shares an audible passion for a wide range of musical styles from the African continent.

Show #439 kicks off with two tracks from the riveting 2022-released third album by Bamako's singular BKO quintet (read more here), followed by the latest album "Ya Mizolé" from Les Mamans du Congo & Rrobin (read more on their previous EP here), the collaborative, hyper-ambient mutant afro-disco LP "It's a Bomb" by Congolese singer Bony Bikaye and French trio TONN3RR3 (read more here) and Bikaye's milestone 1983-released debut "Noir et Blanc" alongside French composer Hector Zazou and electronic music experimentalists CY1 on Crammed Discs, a stunning collaboration between street kids from Kinshasa and Congolese artist Lova Lova titled "Mokili Na Poche", South African singer-songwriter, dancer and activist Brenda Fassie with a tribute to Nelson Mandela on "Black President", Zimbabwean artist ”Mkoma” Ketai & the Simba Brothers and fellow Zimbabwean outfit the Jairos Jiri Kwela Band, visionary South African music man Professor Rhythm, seminal South African underground force BLK JKS, Nigeria's pioneering The Lijadu Sisters, Senegal's iconic Orchestra Baobab, the spectacularly haunting post-industrial, ritualistic soundscapes of François R. Cambuzat and Gianna Greco's (Ifriqiyya Electrique) latest project from the westernmost point of Africa Ndox Electrique (read more here), Askia Hamey off the "Gao Rap – Hip Hop from Northern Mali" compilation by Sahel Sounds, Uganda-based Kenyan rapper MC Yallah and Tanzania's MC Pilato (V.A. Sounds of Pamoja) on Nyege Nyege Tapes, Somalia's Sharero Band off the "Light & Sound of Mogadishu" compilation, and finally Hamburg's Carsten "Erobique" Meyer and Jacques Palminger collaborating with Abidjan's Shaggy Sharoof on vocal duties before the late Lee "Scratch" Perry shares his Christmas/New Year's blessings featuring Sandra Robinson.
