Globalwize Radioshow #422

24/05/2023Listen To A Brand-New Episode Of Weltbeat Host/Selector Jean Trouillet's Far-Reaching Broadcast

After facing some unfortunate licensing issues on Mixcloud a few weeks back and therefore being unable to upload #421 to our channel, we now return to bring you a brand-new instalment of WeltBeat host and selector Jean Trouillet's regular, far-reaching broadcast on Frankfurt community radio X, now successfully uploaded to our channel and ready to be streamed by you. If you're new to our webzine and have no idea what we're talking about, Trouillet's Globalwize format is all about listening journeys through time and space or rather a highly diverse blend of musical cultures from around the globe, a deep listening experience hand-picked and presented with a passion. So, now that you're caught up, let's see what this latest show has in store for its listeners, shall we?

The "Globalwize Radioshow #422" kicks off with Mancunian break-beat minimalist trio GoGo Penguin and their life-affirming new album "Everything is Going to Be Okay", followed by forward-thinking four-piece Masaa led by Rabih Lahoud and two tracks off their latest album "Beit". Then it's the dazzling folk of Sarah-Jane Summers and versatile Finnish/Norwegian composer Juhani Silvola,  followed by two classical re-interpretations by German violist Nils Mönkemeyer and recorder player Dorothee Oberlinger. From there, we hear two surprising new orchestral compositions by Daft Punk's Thomas Bangaltar and his album "Mythologies" and then a new track by Sicilian singer-songwriter Etta Scollo to be found on the Jazzhaus imprint.

Next in line, is a brilliant collaborative effort featuring "BBC Jazz Award-winning and Mercury nominated artist Kit Downes on organ, New Zealand saxophonist Hayden Chisholm – known for his distinct microtonal tuning system – contributing on alto saxophone, shruti box, analogue synthesizer, throat singing, and vocals from PJEV, a female a cappella vocal quintet from the Balkans." This brings us to French outfit ensemble 0 and their stunning outing on Crammed Discs' 'Made to Measure' series and then the equally wonderful debut full-length of Brazilian composer, guitarist and singer Pedro Rosa. After that, we hear two tracks from a newly released 2018 live recording of British band Latin Quarter, before directing our attention to a track off the forthcoming album by Jamaican stalwarts Inna de Yard, the latest interstellar release by the iconic Sun Ra Arkestra and the brilliant soul of French singer-songwriter Tiwayo.

Remaining in France, we then hear the hypnotic folk of An Eagle in your Mind, followed by the powerful bluegrass of Nashville's Mighty Poplar, the contemporary Yiddish sound of Berlin-based troubadour Daniel Kahn and NYC-based fiddler Jake Shulman-Ment, the innovative Mediterranean sounds of Sicily's Banda Blondeau and that irresistibly soulful voice of UK chanteuse Izo FitzRoy. Before heading out, we then travel the globe for some vintage "Saigon Supersounds" and, last but not least, round things off with one more track by the aforementioned GoGo Penguin.
