14/04/2023Listen To Our Latest Monthly Selection Of Extraordinary Tracks From Around The World

As we near this month's halfway mark, we take one last look back at the month of March, the new releases it brought us and the favourite musical discoveries we made. Our latest Spotify playlist of extraordinary tracks from around the globe contains 20 productions that left a lasting impression. You will find a few of these reviewed in our magazine, but otherwise, we simply hope you enjoy the selection.

Our lineup for the month of March opens on a gorgeous downbeat composition by veteran Austrian producer URBS (read more here) and ensues with an equally stunning collaboration between Bangalorean singer, actress, filmmaker and performer MD Pallavi and Hamburg-based composer, cellist, DJ and producer Andi Otto, a mind-blowing new single by French musician, composer and producer Etienne de la Sayette and his Wild Horses Orchestra laying the groundwork for prominent Korean traditional singer Kang Kwon Soon and then a shimmering electronic avant-jazz concoction off the latest album by Berlin trio KUF (read more here).

Brazilian soul-jazz three-piece Caixa Cubo is next with a track off their recently released new album, playing alongside São Paulo-based multi-instrumentalist and singer Zé Leônidas, followed by Italian polyhedric composer Samuel Strufaldi and an afro-futuristic track off his forthcoming album, fellow Italian/Sicilian duo OP:OP with a track from their current EP on YNFND and then self-taught French multidisciplinary artist Johan Papaconstantino with a club-minded track from his superb new album.

Up next is Brazzaville's afro-feminist collective Les Mamans du Congo and French producer RROBIN off their latest EP (read more here), which paves the way to a delirious new track by Ghana's shamanic performer and restless sonic experimenter King Ayisoba, as we venture further into afrobeat with a vintage track by the high priest himself, Dan Boadi & The African Internationals, reissued on Numero Group, and then London's Ezra Collective taking on Fela Kuti's iconic track "Lady".

Remaining with the divine feminine, we hear French duo Ireke collaborating with Pat Kalla (read more here) and then sample a blazing track by French-Creole collective Dowdelin from their new EP on Underdog Records, before enjoying another killer reissue from the Analog Africa fam resurfacing with Nigerian Edo funk project The Good Samaritans, which goes surprising well with the new Habibi Funk reissue of Lybian composer and producer Najib Alhoush's disco-funk group The Free Music.

Entering the final lap of our selection, we hear the latest effervescent single by Palestinian-American violinist, composer and producer Akram Abdulfattah on Levantine Music, then venture into a collaborative project by Turkish downtempo specialist islandman collaborating with legendary percussion innovator Okay Temiz and contemporary saz virtuoso Muhlis Berberoğlu for Night Dreamer's Direct-To-Disc sessions, and top things off with a throwback to Prince Buster's politically incorrect and thus highly controversial "Ten Commandments" and a brilliant emancipatory rebuttal by none other than The Specials featuring Saffiyah Khan.
