August is in the books and so we take our monthly look back at our 20 favourite releases and musical discoveries of the past month, compiled into a comprehensive Spotify playlist now streaming in our Greedio channel

Karkhana, "consisting of seven of the most adventurous and innovative artists of the Middle Eastern experimental scene (and a veteran jazz percussionist from Chicago)," open up with the drums of "Sidi Mansour", converging with the meditative realms of Israeli multi-instrumentalist and multi-talented producer Kutiman's latest single "Majan" and finally paving the way to a much applauded recent release by UK artist Elijah Minelli, "an instrumental ode to the mill workers of old." Self-proclaimed "amateur euphoric sound researcher" and Rio resident Vasconcelos Sentimento is up next with a spontaneous cut off his debut longplayer/beat tape, which blends well with the "spaceship jazz" of the visionary Tel Aviv Duo Brothers, alias Sol Monk and Yonatan Levy, and leaves the stage to the fresh afro soul music of Eric Owusu and Yannick Nolting, aka Jembaa Groove. Ghanaian "force of nature" Kweku Sackey, aka K.O.G, takes it from there, on a recent collaborative effort with Latin Grammy winner Harlison Lozano and Juan S.C, a joyful Highlife cut inspired by Afro-Cuban rhythms, which paves the way to Napoli's Nu Genea featuring French singer Célia Kameni on a Mediterranean disco funk cut and more feel-good vibes by Barcelona-based Lewis OfMan's "Siesta Freestyle", featuring Alicia Te Quiero on vocal duties.

Moving across the Atlantic, we hear a vintage gem off the originally 1980-released and now reissued Venezuelan jazz-fusion masterpiece "Esperanto", succeeded by Welsh artist Carwyn Ellis & Rio 18 performing alongside the BBC National Orchestra of Wales on the uplifting anthem "Olá!", to which you can see the companion video below. We follow that up with a special collaboration between Malian artist Dasmy Djo and French electronic music producer Ditti, alias Anka Foh, released earlier this year on Shika Shika and combine that with a 2019 release by Pulo NDJ, "an eploration of traditional Chadian music with an electronic twist." Next, we head to "Tropical Anatolia", a recent saz-led project by Aarhus-based Danish-Turkish trio Ipek Yolu and then line up another Turkish-flavoured banger by Tel Aviv band Şatellites, before introducing a vintage pearl by Venezuelan band Los Blonder, off a forthcoming surf compilation by El Palmas & El Drágon Criollo. Winding down, you can hear the opener of Habibi Funk's "An Eclectic Selection of Music from the Arab World, Part 2" compilation, performed by Moroccan vocalist Douaa, and then Tel Aviv-based Israeli-Yemenite vocalist SHIRAN in a dubbed out remix by The Spy From Cairo, leading over to the interplanetary tropical dub of L.A.-based artist Pachy García, aka Pachyman, and, last but definitely not least, New York's El Michels Affair meets Nottingham's Liam Bailey, featuring the one and only, the late and great Lee "Scratch" Perry, RIP.

As always, we hope you enjoy the selection. To start streaming, click on the player below or head directly to Spotify. Big up!
