Globalwize Radioshow #377

05/10/2020Stream A New And Far-Reaching Deep Listening Experience By Jean Trouillet For Radio X / Weltbeat

Weird times call for weird sounds and that is exactly how Jean Trouillet kicks off his 377th Globalwize radio show for Weltbeat / Radio X, with a "Refrakto" performance by Danish sample champs Den Sorte Skole. But troubled times equally call for more reconciliatory pieces the likes of prolific Algerian artist Sidi Bemol, who combines Berber and Celtic styles with alternative productions. Moving on to the spring spirit of Mino Cinelu (France) & Nils Petter Molvaer's (Norway) "New York Stroll", followed by "Indianala"–fusion at its best, off their latest collaborative effort "SulaMadiana" (Tip!). Trouillet's continues his ecclectic journey through sound, venturing deeper into spiritual jazz, behind Lon Moshe & Southern Freedom Arkestra's "Doin' The Carvin' For Thabo", Wayne Davis' "Look At The People!" and Oneness of Juju's "African Rhythms", all to be found on Strut Records' excellent Black Fire compilation. Then it's literally off to Africa, on two 1987 live versions by the one and only Youssou N'Dour. The versatile Senegalese artist is featured once more, as Trouillet pays tribute to Orchestre Baobab's late and great frontman Balla Sidibé with "Nijaay". Malian singer and guitarist Afel Bocoum is up next with his Desert Blues, meshing beautifully with an acoustic version of the queen Oumou Sangaré's "Kamelemba". Transitioning into the conscious, soulful dub reggae of Soom T, it's time to stand up and reach for the stars, before the mighty Asian Dub Foundation brings the show to an emphatic close.
