"Everything is getting from 'Bad to Worse'," sings Burning Spear and it may seem obvious why host Jean Trouillet picked this tune to kick off his 376th Globalwize radio show for Frankfurt's Radio X / Weltbeat. He himself attributes it to the people of Belarus and their ongoing fight for justice. Up next is Lebanese 'grand dame' Fairuz with her anthem to "Le Beirut", followed by a more upbeat contribution by Mashrou' Leila. A promising opening to another two-hour, 18-track journey through global sounds. Trouillet's latest selection evolves into another deep listening experience with tracks and musical messages by artists such as Iran's Mahsa Vadat, Denmark's Dreamers' Circus, Polish-Yemeni-born Rasm Almasham, Israeli singer Ofra Haza, Brazil's Thiago Nassif, Afro-American outfit Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids, the disco-jazz-funk of The Star Beams, Mali's Afel Bocoum and Omou Sangaré, Jamaica's Bunny Wailer and finally Bach, as interpreted by German composer Reinhard Febel and lastly Frankfurt's The OhOhOhs. The show also includes a special two-track tribute to the great and recently deceased Senegalese artist Balla Sidibé, the founding member and lead singer of the legendary Orchestra Baobab. Hear the trance-inducingly psychedelic "Sibou Odia" and the heart-wreching ballad "Mamadou Bamba".
