Sometime in the late nineties, during the very early days of Frankfurt-based community broadcasting service Radio X, our very own Jean Trouillet was given the weekly primetime slot of Wednesday 7-9 pm. Looking for quality content to help him fill the airwaves, he began searching for knowledgeable volunteers. With all the jungle and drum & bass playing at the time, Jean eventually thought of doing a reggae show, taking it back to the roots from mento and ska to classic roots reggae. So who better to ask than Daddy Discipline, who not only knew the genre like the back of his hand, but also had a fantastic collection and regularly met and interviewed the style's heroes?!
Such is the story behind the now legendary "Riddim Culture" format, originally aired on Radio X and now streaming exclusively in our Greedio channel on Mixcloud. Today, we bring you the sixth instalment of Daddy Discipline's finest Jamaican roots revival selections, taking it coast to coast with "Don't Brag Don't Boast" and a magnificent lineup featuring: Monty Alexander, Kiddus I, The Viceroys, Light Of Saba, Tradition, Malcolm’s Locks, Third World, Amp Fiddler and Sly & Robbie, Ritchie Spice, U-Roy and Alborosie, Michael Rose, Ernest Ranglin and Dean Fraser, Derrick Harriot and Bunny Brown, Steel Pulse, Johnny Dizzy Moore & Bunny & Skully Jnr., Tony Tuff, Ranking Trevor, Ranking Devon, The Fantails, Ranking Dread, Junior Byles, Romain Virgo, John Holt and Queen Ifrica, Bunu & Penthouse Players, Clancy Eccles, Earl 16, YT, Tenor Fly, MC Shabba, UK Apache and D.
