Globalwize Radioshow #403 (Reggae Special)

08/04/2022Weltbeat Selector/Host Jean Trouillet Airs A Brand-New Episode Of His Far-Reaching Format

War is not the answer, but music might be. In times like these, listening to the latest instalment of Globalwize comes as a very welcome distraction. Airing show #403 of his far-reaching format, Weltbeat selector and host Jean Trouillet has made this one a global reggae special, serving up a rootsy selection of higher vibes and extraordinary collaborations, now streaming exclusively in our Greedio Mixcloud channel.

The show gets off to a marching brass band start with Poland's The Old Paroots on "Rowing to Zion" and continues with a chilled island collaboration by Marta Sofia Honer (viola) and Jeremiah Chiu (modular synths), followed by an innovative taste of amazonic psychedelia from Peruvian outfit Bareto and a track off the current album "Kintal da Banda" by iconic Angolan vocalist Bonga.

This time around, Jean is joined in the studio by his special guests Jacek Szafir aka Jack Sapphire from Poland and Frankfurt's own legendary sound system Revered & Tricky Cris as they kick off the reggae segment with a special live recording of "Roots Rock Reggae" performed by former German outfit Addis featuring Jack Sapphire on vocals, from a Bob Marley tribute show they did at Frankfurt's Sinkkasten venue back in 1990. After that we hear two tracks by Jack Sapphire's group R.A.P. (Reggae Against Politricks, Manufaktura Legenda) and another horns-led tune by The Old Paroots, a project established by Jacek's R.A.P. co-founder Jerzy 'Mercedes' Mercik. Next up are some prime crossover cuts of Polish roots reggae by the Twinkle Brothers featuring Trebunie-Tutki (mixed by Adrian Sherwood / On-U Sound) and the Warsaw Village Band before heading back to Germany behind London reggae collective Misty in Roots on "Roots Controller".

Entering the last 45 minutes, Frankfurt selectors Revered & Tricky Cris (of Raggamuffin Sound System and Riddim Wize fame) take over with a choice drop of Dancefloor classics, being Tenor Saw's "Ring the Alarm", Gregory Isaacs' "Rumours", Barrington Levy's "Here I Come" and Wayne Smith's "Under me Sleng Teng". After sharing some of their own story, they line up four of their own reggae and dub-inspired productions, featuring Grounation with "King of Dub", Global Youth and Jah Meek on "The Riddim" in a Disciples remix, and the Riddim Wize singles Linda Carriere with "Jah Love" and Jah Sesco's "War is not the Answer", bringing the show to a worthy close.

You can now stream the full show with German moderation and interview segments in our Greedio Mixcloud channel and listen to the full Bob Marley tribute show by Jack Sapphire and Addis in the video below. Find the full playlist here
